Spectral Features from the Reionization Epoch

چکیده
Emission lines in hydrogen can be used to measure the approximate redshift of the reionization of the universe. This is an important measurement given the lack of a convincing theoretical prediction of this epoch. There is a rapid change in absorption at the reionization event, which can leave sharp features in the spectrum of recombining hydrogen. These features in the near infrared background permit us to measure the redshift at which reionization occurs. We have calculated these signals based on numerical simulations of the ΛCDM cosmogony. Constraints on Primordial Black Holes and Primeval Density Perturbations from the Epoch of Reionization
We investigate the constraint on the abundance of primordial black holes (PBHs) and the spectral index n of primeval density perturbations given by the ionizing photon background at the epoch of reionization. Within the standard inflationary cosmogony, we show that the spectral index n of the power-law power spectrum of primeval density perturbations should be n <1.27. Since the universe is sti...
متن کاملLight-cone anisotropy in 21cm fluctuations during the epoch of reionization
The delay in light travel time along the line of sight generates an anisotropy in the power spectrum of 21cm brightness fluctuations from the epoch of reionization. We show that when the fluctuations in the neutral hydrogen fraction become non-linear at the later stages of reionization, the light-cone anisotropy becomes of order unity on scales & 50 comoving Mpc. During this period the density ...
متن کاملHow is the Reionization Epoch Defined ?
We study the effect of a prolonged epoch of reionization on the angular power spectrum of the Cosmic Microwave Background. Typically reionization studies assume a sudden phase transition, with the intergalactic gas moving from a fully neutral to a fully ionized state at a fixed redshift. Such models are at odds, however, with detailed investigations of reionization, which favor a more extended ...
متن کاملLight-cone effect on the reionization 21-cm power spectrum
Observations of redshifted 21-cm radiation from neutral hydrogen during the epoch of reionization are considered to constitute the most promising tool to probe that epoch. One of the major goals of the first generation of low-frequency radio telescopes is to measure the 3D 21-cm power spectrum. However, the 21-cm signal could evolve substantially along the lineof-sight (LOS) direction of an obs...
متن کاملA Statistical Analysis of Intergalactic Medium Transmission Approaching Reionization
We use hydrodynamic cosmological simulations to explore the evolution of the intergalactic medium (IGM) transmissivity from z=2 through the epoch of reionization. We simulate a concordance ΛCDM model in a 9.6 Mpc box with a comoving spatial resolution of 37.5 kpc. Reionization is treated in the optically thin approximation using an ultraviolet background (UVB) that includes evolving stellar and...
